NECA coalition goes to Las Vegas convention

Electric Times
With the NECA national convention
being held in Las Vegas this year from Sept.
14-17, Arizona NECA chapters, apprentices
and local contractors took the opportunity to
send people to the event in order to participate
in networking, check out the latest
industry products and gain a general appreciation
for issues and challenges facing the
industry. And to also have a lot of fun.
Made possible by the sponsorship of
Milwaukee Tools, 47 apprentices from the
Phoenix Electrical Joint Apprenticeship
Training Committee (PEJATC), as well as
two instructors and Training Director
Shawn Hutchinson, attended part of the
convention, including the Apprentice Day
event and trade show. This represents an
unpresetended number of apprentices from
Arizona ever attending the convention.
About another combined 25 apprentices
from Tucson and Globe also were able to
travel to the convention.

Arizona. He noted that typically IDEAL
sees a minimum of 30 contestants at a qualifying
round location, but he has had up to
80 contestants at a single location.
Hall said this year’s qualifying round
challenge consisted of wire stripping, termination
, and energizing a small LED
light, with competitors racing against the
clock to log the fastest time.
The competitions are broken down into
divisions, including professional, students
/apprentices, contractor teams, and
school challenge teams.
The Arizona competitors who have the
best time in each division will go on to the
IDEAL National Championship competition
at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort
in Orlando, Fla. on Nov. 7 through 9.
