The Independent Electrical Contractors
Arizona Chapter (IEC-AZ) held its 2019
apprentice graduation ceremony on May 16,
graduating 11 apprentices, and issued a
number of awards including Apprentice of
the Year, Contractors of the Year and Associate
of the Year.
Guest speakers at the ceremony were
Gary Golka, 2019 IEC National president;
Jeff Fleetham, director of the Arizona Registrar
of Contractors Office; and William
Higgins, Arizona Department of Economic
Security State Apprenticeship Program
lead. Pete Trowbridge, 2019 chapter president
, delivered welcoming remarks and
served as emcee of the event, which was
held at the Double Tree by Hilton Phoenix,
at 2100 S. Priest Dr. in Tempe.
The 2019 Apprentice of the Year award
went to Bryce Bishop of Hawkeye Electric
Inc. who was selected for his overall performance
in the Wire-Off competition.
Placing second in the competition was

ENERGY STAR Contractor of the Year awards

Arizona businesses led the way in the
2019 Home Performance with ENERGY
STAR Contractor of the Year awards, with
three out of nine winners across the country
based locally.
Local winners included Elevation Solar
of Gilbert, Ideal Energy of Phoenix and AZ
Energy Efficient Home of Phoenix.
“All ENERGY STAR award winners
undergo a rigorous application review
process and have made outstanding contributions
to protecting public health and the environment

CEO of Elevation Solar Clayton Andersen
said the award was exciting for his company
, because it is still fairly new to energy
efficiency compared to the other local winners
. Elevation Solar is a fully integrated
residential energy solutions company that
provides solar, energy efficiency and smart
energy management technology to customers
across multiple states in the Southwest
and beyond.
“We are humbled to receive the award,
after such a recent start to that side of our
business,” Andersen said. “It’s a testament
and a reminder that we are doing the right

thing for the customer…and creating something
special.”
Rather than only providing solar solutions
to clients, Elevate Solar seeks to bring
an “elevated home” to clients through conducting
a BPI energy audit and recommending
solutions for energy savings prior to the
installation of any solar. These can include
changes such as adding smart-home
automation, duct sealing, insulation, electric
car charging and more.
Andersen, an Arizona native with a background
in finance, said today’s technology
inspired him to get into the energy efficiency
industry.
“I grew up in the era where if you wanted
to save money, you needed to keep your
AC unit at 85 degrees,” Andersen said.
“There are better ways now. There is smart
technology that not just enables you to save
money, but also to stay comfortable.”
For another winner, Ideal Energy, this
year’s award marked a second consecutive
win for the company, while AZ Energy Efficient
Home won the award for the fourth
year, making it a “sustained excellence”
winner, which is the highest level of recognition
an ENERGY STAR home performance
contractor can receive.
