Marden Electric, IBEW Local 640 team up to
fix Habitat for Humanity ReStore problems

The Habitat for Humanity Central Arizona
affiliate realized it had a big problem
after it selected a location at 4344 W. Indian
School Rd. in Phoenix for its Habitat
Restore, but a call to an International Brotherhood
of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local
640 official got the ball rolling on a solution
that had everyone smiling.

manager, said, “It all started with

person to call—Philip Aguayo, IBEW Local
640 director of membership development.
“He responded to my call in one day and
the next morning we were walking the
aisles at our ReStore site to review the project
,” Logue pointed out, “and he expressed
his desire to take our request to his leadership
.”
Aguayo then went to IBEW 640 business
manager Dean Wine to discuss the issue and
got Wine’s blessing to help Habitat with the
project. Aguayo followed that approval with
a call to Marden Electric in Tempe to get
Marden on board with the project.

owner, was at the Habitat ReStore to review
the work that needed to be done, and the following
day, Marden’s electricians began
raising the lights.
“Habitat wanted to put in a high rack system
, but the lighting prevented it from being
raised to the height they wanted, so two of
us spent two days raising 70 light fixtures,”
Skalon said, “with each one having to be
raised about six feet. Fortunately, this project
happened at a time when we had the
