Family-owned Canyon State Electric continues to
complete diverse commercial projects after over 40 years

Canyon State Electric Co. Inc., a familyowned
electrical contracting business, is in
its 42nd year and continues to take on a
diverse selection of commercial projects,
from warehouses to schools and resorts to
multi-family buildings and assisted living
facilities.
The business was started by founder
Steve Maderazzo, who continues with the
company, along with co-chief executive
officers, Stephanie Maderazzo Hughes and
Christopher Maderazzo, Steve''s daughter
and son. Over the last four decades, Canyon
State Electric has grown from a one-person
shop to a multi-million dollar company,
now employing more than 150 employees
working out of a facility at 4640 E.
McDowell Rd., in Phoenix.

Facilities professionals take part in SWBFM show in Phoenix

Just a few weeks ago, downtown Phoenix
was graced by the presence of building and
facilities managers of schools, resorts,
health care and manufacturing facilities and
many others who were ready to speak with
exhibitors and sit in on educational sessions.
Pro Expos Group and IFMA Greater
Phoenix Chapter presented the 5th Annual
Southwest Building & Facilities Management
Show and Conference (SWBFM) on
February 12-13 at Phoenix Convention Center
. The event was sponsored by American
Society of Safety Professionals (ASSP) Arizona
Chapter, IFMA Greater Phoenix Chapter
, Electric League of Arizona and the
National Safety Council Arizona Chapter.
This year, SWBFM had their biggest
turnout yet with 101 exhibitors and 672
guests over the course of the two days.
Canyon State Electric recently completed a job for ViaSat on the ASU Technology Campus in Tempe.
SWBFM 2020 was held at the Phoenix Convention Center in February.
“With the number of exhibitors and guests,”
Rich Ruperts of Pro Expos Group told said.
“The quality of the show and conference
was the best it’s been yet.” Admission was
free, and guests were able to explore the
trade show, attend the various conference
talks that were offered throughout the twoday
event and enjoy the onsite catering provided
by the Phoenix Convention Center.
“Also, ASU Professional Development and
Training attended the event. They offered
three conference talks and had a booth in the
trade show,” Ruperts reported. “They have a
facility management program at ASU, and it
was great to have them there.”
Every conference talk was accredited for
CFM credits from IFMA Greater Phoenix
Chapter and CEU credits from AFE. 16 talks
were held over the course of the two days,
and the subjects of those talks varied greatly

and the Impact on Safety” by Carly Baez of
the AZ Chapter National Safety Council to
“Leveraging VDC Information in BIM for
FM” by Steven Ayer, assistant professor at
ASU to “Five Essentials for Improving the
